About Air Tindi

Air Tindi: The Northern Link with Community at Heart Based in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Air Tindi has served Canada’s North since 1988, earning a reputation for connecting remote communities with reliable, locally-attuned air service. Roots & Regional Growth Founded by the Arychuk families, Air Tindi began with ski- and float-equipped aircraft and expanded steadily—merging with Latham Island Airways and adding its first Twin Otter in 1990. By 1996, the fleet included its first Dash 7—capable of handling more rugged routes. Today, the name “Tindi”, meaning “Big Lake” in Dene, honors its cultural and geographic heritage. Fleet Built for Arctic Flight Air Tindi’s modern fleet of around 25 aircraft includes: Dash 7 combi—flexible cargo/passenger configurations. Twin Otters, King Airs, Cessna Caravans, and Otters—all gravel- and float-capable. This diverse fleet allows access to hard-to-reach airports across the NWT and supports wildfire crews, medevac missions, and charter flights. Service Footprint & New Routes Operating scheduled services to 10 destinations, Air Tindi links Yellowknife with Fort Simpson, Fort Smith, Hay River, Gamèti, Whatì, Wekweètì, Łutselk'e, Fort Chipewyan, and Edmonton. In late 2024, it absorbed routes from Northwestern Air, adding Yellowknife–Fort Smith–Fort Chipewyan–Edmonton to its growing network. Safety Amid Challenge Operating in extreme conditions, Air Tindi maintains strict safety protocols. Though it has experienced occasional incidents—such as fuel-related emergencies or off-strip landings—the airline responds proactively, enhancing checklists and crew training after each event. Community Focus & Indigenous Ties Air Tindi’s growth reflects strong local roots. It contracts with Indigenous governments for medevac and charter services across the Kitikmeot region and employs northern residents, reinforcing its community commitment. Why Fly Air Tindi? Deep regional understanding built over 35+ years Versatile fleet ready for snow, gravel, or float water landings Expanding network with recent new routes in key NWT corridors Community-first approach, with local employment and partnerships For travellers, medevac needs, or cargo runs in Canada’s North, Air Tindi offers reliability, safety, and a true northern spirit.
