Operational Challenges and Liquidation
In May 2024, Air Vanuatu faced significant financial difficulties, leading to its entry into voluntary liquidation. The airline suspended all flights, citing extended maintenance requirements and financial strain exacerbated by global aviation challenges.
Ernst & Young were appointed as liquidators to oversee the restructuring process. By October 2024, after satisfying court-imposed conditions, control was handed back to the airline, marking the end of the liquidation period.
Resumption of Services
Post-liquidation, Air Vanuatu resumed limited domestic operations using its ATR 72-600 and DHC-6-300 aircraft. However, international flights remained suspended due to the repossession of its sole jet aircraft earlier in 2024.
Fleet and Operations
As of 2022, Air Vanuatu's fleet included:
1 ATR 72-600
2 DHC-6-300 Twin Otters
1 Britten-Norman BN-2 Islander
The airline operated both domestic and international routes, with domestic services connecting various islands and international flights to Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, and New Caledonia.
Looking Ahead
Air Vanuatu's journey reflects the resilience of a nation striving to maintain vital air connections amidst challenges. The airline's commitment to serving its people and promoting tourism remains steadfast as it navigates the path to full recovery.
