About Alliance Airlines
Airnorth: Connecting Northern Australia and Beyond
Established in 1978 by aviator John Hardy, Airnorth is Australia's second-longest operating airline, with a rich history of providing regional air services across the Northern Territory and beyond. Headquartered in Darwin, the airline has grown from its humble beginnings into a vital component of Australia's aviation landscape.
A Legacy of Service
Airnorth commenced operations on July 4, 1978, initially offering charter services throughout the Northern Territory. By 1981, the airline expanded to include scheduled flights, introducing the region's first turbine-powered aircraft, a Beechcraft Super King Air 200, which set new standards for comfort, speed, and safety in the area.
Expanding Horizons
Over the decades, Airnorth has continuously expanded its network, now serving over 15 destinations across Australia and Timor-Leste. Key destinations include Alice Springs, Broome, Cairns, Darwin, Kununurra, Perth, Townsville, and Dili. The airline operates more than 220 scheduled weekly departures, connecting remote communities with major urban centers.
Modern Fleet and Services
Airnorth operates a modern fleet comprising Embraer E170 and E190 jets, as well as Embraer EMB-120 Brasilia turboprops. The introduction of the E190 aircraft has enabled the airline to offer enhanced comfort and efficiency on its regional routes.
In addition to scheduled passenger services, Airnorth provides charter flights, freight services, and ground handling solutions, catering to various sectors, including mining, defense, and tourism.
Commitment to Regional Connectivity
Airnorth remains dedicated to enhancing regional connectivity and supporting the economic development of Northern Australia. The airline's expansion into new routes, such as the recent Cairns to Alice Springs service, underscores its commitment to providing accessible and reliable air travel options for both residents and visitors
