Guna Airlines: Navigating Nepal's Skies with Resilience
Guna Airlines, a domestic carrier based in Kathmandu, has been a notable player in Nepal's aviation landscape. Established in 2009 by the Guna Group, the airline aimed to enhance regional connectivity across the country. However, financial challenges led to its acquisition by Simrik Airlines in 2013. In a turn of events, Guna Airlines was reestablished in 2021, marking its return to Nepal's skies.
The airline's fleet comprised five BAe Jetstream 41 and two Beechcraft 1900C aircraft, facilitating operations to various domestic destinations, including Pokhara, Biratnagar, Janakpur, and Nepalgunj. Guna Airlines also offered scenic mountain flights, providing passengers with breathtaking views of the Himalayas.
Despite its efforts, Guna Airlines faced operational hurdles. In early 2023, the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal suspended the airline's operations due to financial issues, including unpaid staff salaries. Efforts to resume services have been ongoing, with the airline seeking regulatory approval to recommence flights.
Guna Airlines' journey reflects the dynamic nature of Nepal's aviation sector, highlighting the challenges and resilience inherent in the industry. As the airline works towards reestablishing its presence, it remains a symbol of determination in connecting Nepal's diverse regions.
