About Lynx Air
Lynx Air: A Bold but Fleeting Fare for Canadian Travelers
Lynx Air entered the Canadian aviation scene as a breath of fresh air. Initially founded in 2006 as Enerjet, it was rebranded Lynx Air on November 16, 2021, with the goal of launching ultra-budget scheduled flights across Canada. Its inaugural flight took off from Calgary to Vancouver on April 7, 2022, marking its official entry into the ultra-low-cost carrier (ULCC) segment
Customer experiences were mixed. Some passengers appreciated the low fares, but others reported significant service shortcomings—heavy fees, flight delays, baggage issues, and poor customer service were common. One traveler described their experience bluntly:
“Avoid this airline at all costs. This is by far the worst airline”
Others took a more balanced view: it delivered as promised if you were flexible.
While its closure was a setback for budget-minded travelers, Lynx Air's legacy raises critical questions about sustainability in Canada’s ULCC space. Analysts point to a brewing consolidation—between established players and fledgling carriers—and warn that Canada’s domestic market remains challenging for low-cost challengers
Looking Ahead
Though short-lived, Lynx Air demonstrated that competitive fares and a digital-first model can transform the market—if balanced by realistic financial planning. For consumers, the takeaway is clear: ULCCs can offer tremendous savings, but expectations must be tempered with flexibility and awareness of trade-offs.
