About Qantas Airways
Qantas Airways: Australia's Iconic Carrier Leading the Skies
Founded in 1920 in the Queensland outback, Qantas Airways—originally known as Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services Ltd—has grown to become Australia's largest domestic and international airline. As the world's second-oldest airline, Qantas is renowned for its exceptional safety record, operational reliability, and commitment to customer service.
Qantas operates a diverse fleet of 137 mainline aircraft, including Airbus A330s, Airbus A380s, Boeing 737s, and Boeing 787 Dreamliners, serving over 100 destinations worldwide. Its regional subsidiary, QantasLink, adds another 122 aircraft, connecting smaller cities and towns across Australia.
In response to increasing travel demand, Qantas is expanding its network. Notably, the airline has announced a new direct route between Newcastle and Perth, set to commence on September 8, 2025. This service will operate three times weekly, providing a convenient link between the east and west coasts.
Qantas is also enhancing its trans-Tasman services, increasing capacity between Australia and New Zealand by 20% for the 2025 summer season. The airline is reintroducing Airbus A380s to relieve pressure on its widebody fleet, allowing Boeing 787s to be redeployed on routes like Brisbane-Auckland, which will increase to daily service. Additionally, new routes such as Adelaide-Auckland are being introduced to meet sustained high travel demand.
The Qantas Frequent Flyer program, boasting over 15 million members, offers travelers the opportunity to earn and redeem points across Qantas and its extensive network of partner airlines, including members of the oneworld alliance. Members can enjoy benefits such as priority boarding, lounge access, and exclusive rewards, enhancing the overall travel experience.
Looking ahead, Qantas is investing in fleet modernization and sustainability. The airline plans to introduce new Airbus A350-1000s and Boeing 787-9s as part of its long-term strategy to offer enhanced comfort and efficiency on long-haul routes. These advancements align with Qantas' commitment to reducing its environmental footprint and providing passengers with state-of-the-art travel experiences.
With a century-long legacy, Qantas continues to set the standard in aviation, connecting Australia to the world with safety, innovation, and unparalleled service.
