About Saurya Airlines
Saurya Airlines, established in August 2014, is a Nepalese domestic carrier headquartered in Kathmandu. The airline commenced operations on November 17, 2014, introducing jet aircraft to Nepal's domestic routes with its Bombardier CRJ-200, marking a significant milestone in the country's aviation sector.
Operating primarily from Tribhuvan International Airport, Saurya Airlines has served various destinations across Nepal, including Biratnagar, Bhadrapur, and Pokhara. The airline's fleet has consisted mainly of Bombardier CRJ-200 aircraft, known for their efficiency and performance on regional routes.
Throughout its history, Saurya Airlines has faced several challenges, including operational suspensions due to financial constraints and regulatory issues. In 2018, the airline was grounded over unpaid service charges but resumed operations in 2019 after settling its dues.
A significant setback occurred on July 24, 2024, when a Saurya Airlines CRJ-200 aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff from Kathmandu, resulting in 18 fatalities. The aircraft was en route to Pokhara for maintenance. Following the incident, the airline suspended all operations due to the loss of aircraft and personnel.
Despite these challenges, Saurya Airlines has expressed intentions to resume operations, pending approval from the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal. The airline aims to continue providing efficient and comfortable domestic air travel within Nepal.
