About Seaborne Airlines
Seaborne Airlines: Connecting the Caribbean Since 1992
Seaborne Airlines, founded in 1992 by Ken Dole and Charles Slagle, began as a seaplane sightseeing operator in Alaska before relocating to the U.S. Virgin Islands. By 1994, it commenced scheduled passenger services between St. Croix and St. Thomas using De Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter seaplanes.
Fleet and Operations
As of 2025, Seaborne Airlines operates a fleet of four aircraft: two Saab 340B landplanes and two De Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter seaplanes. The Twin Otters are particularly suited for short takeoff and landing capabilities, making them ideal for the Caribbean's varied terrain and smaller airports.
Destinations
Seaborne Airlines serves several destinations across the Caribbean, including:
U.S. Virgin Islands: St. Croix (Christiansted Harbor Seaplane Base), St. Thomas (Charlotte Amalie Seaplane Base)
Puerto Rico: San Juan, Vieques, Culebra
British Virgin Islands: Tortola, Virgin Gorda
Other Caribbean Destinations: Dominica, Antigua, St. Kitts, Nevis, St. Maarten, Anguilla, Santiago (Dominican Republic) .
Ownership and Partnerships
In 2018, Seaborne Airlines was acquired by Silver Airways, a regional carrier based in Florida. This acquisition combined their fleets and expanded their route networks across Florida, the Bahamas, and the Caribbean. Seaborne maintains codeshare and interline agreements with major U.S. carriers, enhancing connectivity for passengers traveling to and from the Caribbean.
