Simrik Airlines was a Nepalese domestic airline based in Kathmandu, operating scheduled flights from Tribhuvan International Airport. The airline ceased operations in 2021 and was rebranded as Guna Airlines. Established in 2009, Simrik Airlines emerged from the remnants of the financially troubled Guna Airlines. Initially, it operated using two Beechcraft 1900 aircraft acquired from Guna Airlines. In 2013, Simrik Airlines expanded its fleet by leasing five aircraft from Agni Air, including three BAe Jetstream 41 and two Dornier 228 aircraft. However, by mid-2017, the two Dornier 228s were sold, and the Jetstream 41 aircraft remained grounded, leaving the airline with only two operational planes. Simrik Airlines offers flights to several destinations within Nepal, including Bhairahawa, Bharatpur, Jomsom, Kathmandu, Lukla, Pokhara, Simara, Simikot, and Tumlingtar. The airline also provided daily sightseeing mountain flights from Kathmandu, offering passengers breathtaking views of the Himalayas. In August 2019, the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal grounded Simrik Airlines due to the use of substandard spare parts. The airline resumed operations a month later after addressing the issues. In early 2021, plans were announced to reestablish Guna Airlines, leading to the discontinuation of the Simrik Airlines brand. On September 16, 2021, Guna Airlines commenced operations with regular flights from Kathmandu to Pokhara and Bharatpur. Simrik Airlines played a significant role in Nepal's domestic aviation sector, connecting remote regions and providing essential air services. Despite its eventual rebranding, the airline's contributions to Nepalese aviation remain noteworthy.
