About Skytrans Airlines

Skytrans Airlines: Connecting Queensland's Remote Corners Founded in October 1990 by David and Sue Barnard, Skytrans Airlines began as a charter airline before launching scheduled services in 1993. Based in Cairns, Queensland, Skytrans has become a vital link for remote communities across northern Australia. The airline operates scheduled, charter, and ACMI (Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance, and Insurance) services from bases in Cairns, Horn Island, Brisbane, Rockhampton, and Townsville. Fleet and Operations As of May 2024, Skytrans operates a fleet of 18 aircraft, including: 2 Airbus A319-100s (144 seats) 5 De Havilland Canada Dash 8-100s (36 seats) 3 Dash 8-200s (36 seats) 2 Dash 8-300s (50 seats) 6 Cessna 208B Grand Caravans (10 seats) The Dash 8 aircraft are particularly suited for regional routes, offering flexibility in seating configurations to accommodate both passengers and freight. Expansion and Strategic Moves In January 2024, Skytrans was acquired by Avia Solutions Group, the world's largest ACMI provider. This acquisition has enabled Skytrans to expand its operations, including the introduction of Airbus A319 aircraft for wet leasing services in the Asia-Pacific region. In October 2024, Skytrans entered into a partnership with QantasLink to continue operations on the Sydney–Lord Howe Island route. Skytrans will acquire QantasLink's Dash 8-200 aircraft and take over the service starting 26 February 2026, with a license to operate until March 2030. Community Engagement Skytrans has a strong commitment to community support, having donated to over 250 organizations. The airline is a major sponsor of the Cairns Taipans and the Northern Pride Rugby League Team, and has supported various causes such as AFL Kickstart and the Queensland Cancer Council.
