SUN-AIR of Scandinavia – From British Airways Franchise to Premier Charter Services
SUN-AIR of Scandinavia A/S, established in 1978 by Niels Sundberg, is a Danish airline headquartered in Billund. Initially focusing on aircraft renovation and taxi flights, the company expanded its operations over the decades. In 1996, SUN-AIR entered into a franchise agreement with British Airways, operating regional flights under the British Airways brand and livery. However, as of March 2025, SUN-AIR ceased all scheduled services, including its last route between Billund and London, to concentrate on charter operations and specialized aviation services .
Fleet and Operations
SUN-AIR operates a fleet of eight Dornier 328JET aircraft, each accommodating up to 32 passengers. These aircraft are utilized for various purposes, including charter flights, air taxi services, and operations under the company's VIP division, JoinJet.
JoinJet – VIP Charter Services
JoinJet, a division of SUN-AIR, specializes in organizing individual flights for VIPs, companies, groups, and sports clubs, as well as ambulance flights within Denmark and internationally. Additionally, JoinJet is involved in international aircraft sales and leasing, catering to a global clientele.
SUN-AIR Technic – Maintenance and Support
SUN-AIR Technic, the maintenance arm of the company, operates facilities in Billund and Thisted. These departments perform comprehensive aircraft service and maintenance, component overhauls, and offer a "One-stop" concept, ensuring all key tasks are addressed efficiently in one location.
Leadership and Legacy
The airline remains a family-owned business, with Kristoffer Sundberg serving as CEO since 2017, succeeding his father, founder Niels Sundberg. SUN-AIR's transition from scheduled services to specialized charter and maintenance operations reflects its adaptability and commitment to meeting the evolving demands of the aviation industry.
